The Tourism Industry Association of BC's Board of Directors is comprised of industry leaders from across the province. Each Board member is nominated and elected by our membership for two-year terms. Board officers are elected by the Board of Directors. TIABC Board members are ambassadors for the provincial tourism industry and at every opportunity advocate for the advancement of the needs of tourism operators from across the province.

Lana Denoni,
Chair of the Board of Directors

Lana Denoni recently started her own company, Denoni Sales & Marketing, with contracts for Black Ball Ferry Line and the Shaw Ocean Discovery Centre. Previously, Lana worked for the Oak Bay Marine Group as Director of Tour & Travel & Community Relations. Before that, as Publisher for Visitor Publications Group (part of Black Press Ltd) for 11 years, Lana produced tourism publications to encourage visitors to Vancouver Island. Previous employment in sales & marketing positions included Budget Rent a Car and C-FAX Radio.

Lana's experience includes involvement with numerous community organizations in Victoria and on Vancouver Island. A member of the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce for over 25 years, Lana served as President in 1999 and now continues as a member of its Board of Governors. In addition, Lana is currently on the Board of Directors for Tourism Vancouver Island. Other involvement includes being on the Board for the University of Victoria on their Heritage Properties Board.

Lana is married with two children and has been a resident of Vancouver Island for many years.

Lana is an active participant in the community and our province.

Jim Storie,
Immediate Past Chair

Jim is the President and CEO of The Vancouver Trolley Company, one of Vancouver's best known sightseeing companies. The Vancouver Trolley Company has grown under Jim's direction from a 6 vehicle, seventeen employee seasonal business in 1996 to a 33 vehicle, year round operation, with over 150 employees. This growth was generated through working with local attractions to establish mutually beneficial partnerships aimed at assisting all parties in attracting more customers and increasing revenues. In addition, the Company has developed new products to create incremental off season revenue streams so that the company can continue to grow and maintain financial stability.

Jim was born in the City of Vancouver and raised in Vancouver and Burnaby. He attended Simon Fraser University and B.C.I.T. In 2006, he received his Bachelor of Hospitality Management Degree through the Executive Cohort Program at Vancouver Community College. Mr. Storie completed the Institute of Corporate Director's Governance Essentials Program in 2006 and the Director's Education Program (DEP 6) in September of 2009. Mr. Storie obtained his ICD.D in November of 2009.

Mr. Storie has been an active participant in industry and community organizations. He is the Board Chair of Vancouver's The Arts Club Theatre Company and Immediate Past-chair of the Tourism Industry Association of British Columbia and sits of the boards of Vancouver Community College and Action Line Housing. He is a Past Chair of the Boards of Tourism Vancouver, Action Line Housing and the Seton Villa Society and formerly sat on the boards of Vancouver Coast and Mountain Tourism Association, H.R. MacMillan Space Science Centre, The Van Dusen Botanical Gardens Association and The B.C. Trucking Association.

Dave Butler,
Vice Chair of the Board of Directors

Dave Butler, based in Cranbrook, is a professional forester and biologist who is the Director of Land Resources for Canadian Mountain Holidays (CMH). Dave's role with CMH, which operates throughout south-eastern and south-central BC, focuses on government relations, environmental issues, tenures/permits and community relations. He has also worked in tourism consulting and with the federal and provincial governments.

Over the last 10 years, Dave has shown a commitment to tourism in BC through active involvement in many processes and committees including: COTA Foresight Task Force and Steering Committee; Chair of HeliCat Canada Environmental Standards Committee; co-chair of the Tourism-Wildlife Guidelines Project Team; co-chair of Limits of Acceptable Change Pilot Project Steering Committee; and member of Adventure Tourism Policy Joint Steering Committee.

Under Dave's leadership, CMH's sustainability initiatives have been recognized with a number of federal and provincial-level awards. CMH is the first tourism company in BC to publish a regular sustainability report. As Chair of TIABC's Foresight Taskforce, Dave is committed to putting sustainable tourism into practice in BC. He believes that this offers an incredible opportunity to sustain - for many decades to come - the businesses, communities and incredible places that we share with our visitors.

Ian Powell,
Director

Over the past 30 years, Ian Powell has held the position of General Manager at some of Canada's most prestigious hotels including The Fairmont Hotel Vancouver and the Fairmont Empress in Victoria as well as the Fairmont Hamilton Princess in Bermuda. Powell returned to Canada in 2006 and is currently the managing director of Paul's Restaurants Ltd., with the Inn at Laurel Point being the principle holding.

Ian has always been actively involved in numerous Provincial tourism groups including as Director of the British Columbia Hotels Association, and past Chair of Tourism Victoria. He was also one of the founders of go2, the BC tourism industry's human resources organization, and currently acts as Vice-Chair.

Ian is currently completing his Master of Divinity at Vancouver School of Theology and was recently ordained as a Deacon into the Anglican Church of Canada. He anticipates being fully ordained as a priest in the Anglican Church of Canada this upcoming summer - God willing.

Originally from England, Ian & his wife Marilyn now live in North Saanich, BC and have two grown daughters.

 

John Korenic,
Director

John Korenic is the Director, Aviation Marketing for the Vancouver Airport Authority. His role encompasses air service development, air policy, forecasting, and passenger marketing. He joined the Airport Authority in 1999.

Prior to the Airport Authority John spent 13 years with Wardair and Canadian Airlines in operations, route planning, marketing, international affairs and alliances.

With the Airport Authority his primary focus has been to continue to develop YVR as both a Premier Gateway and destination of choice. This has focused on market research and the development of air service business proposals, advocacy of air policy positions, identifying and supporting facilitation initiatives, aggressively pursuing marketing objectives and encouraging a closer relationship with its tourism and industry partners.

John has been a Board member of Tourism Vancouver for six years and also Tourism British Columbia (6 years). He is a Past Chair, Marketing and Communications Steering Group of ACI-North America, and the Past Chair of the Air Policy and Facilitation Committee of the Canadian Airports Council. Currently he is on the Board of the Pacific Asia Travel Association. John has also been a sessional lecturer at the University of British Columbia on Air Transport Management and Policy.

John obtained a BSc from the University of Calgary, and an MBA degree from the University of British Columbia. He is married with one daughter and is actively involved in the development of female ice hockey.

 

Ingrid Dilschneider,
Director

Ingrid is the Director of Sales and Marketing for the Resort at Predator Ridge. She has extensive experience in all areas of hotel, resort, and winery hospitality operations, and has previously worked for Mission Hill Family Estate, the Grand Okanagan Resort, and the Delta Lodge at Kananaskis.

In addition to her new role as a Board Director for the Tourism Industry Association of BC, Ingrid is an active member of the community, including roles as Second Vice President of the Vernon Chamber of Commerce and Chair of the Membership Committee, Chair for the Vernon Tourism Council, and sitting on the Savour Magazine Editorial Board. Ingrid’s previous commitments include being First Vice President of the Westbank Chamber of Commerce and Chair for Team Tourism Westside.

In 2009, Ingrid was chosen as one of the top Business Women in Kelowna.

Ingrid is married and lives in Kelowna with her husband and their four legged dependent, Shadow. Although there are many things to be externally motivated about in Tourism, Ingrid is internally driven with her passion for the industry.

James Terry,
Director

James Terry joined the Armstrong Group, owners and operators of Rocky Mountaineer in 1995 and was the Chief Operations Officer from 1999 until 2010. He is still with Rocky Mountaineer as Executive Vice President and Special Advisor to the President. James as COO was responsible for the Operations throughout the company and its award-winning and legendary Guest Services.

In that position, James oversaw an organization comprised of over 500 employees and contracted staff in British Columbia and Alberta.

James studied business in England before bringing to the company over thirty years experience in hotel and restaurant management and development, working in England, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

Active in the Tourism Industry, James is Immediate Past Chair of the Board of Tourism Vancouver and sits on the Royal Roads School of Tourism and Hospitality Management Advisory Board. He is a former Board Member of the Tourism Industry Association of Canada (TIAC) and has sat on many committees including the World Travel and Tourism Council Human Resources Task Force, the BC Competition Council Tourism Industry Advisory Committee, the Capital Campaign Steering Committee for the Vancouver Community College and the North Vancouver Tourism Advisory Committee.

James is also very involved in his community; he is a Vancouver Playhouse Board Member, a past director of the Vancouver Hotel Association and enjoyed four years as chair of fundraising for the BC Children's Hospital representing the Tourism and Hospitality sectors. James is the co-founder and co-chair of the Tourism Industry Partners Invitational Golf Tournament which has raised over $150,000 in scholarship money for Tourism and Hospitality students.

 

R. Gordon Johnson,
Director

Regional Vice President, BC Region, Delta Hotels and Resorts
General Manager, Delta Vancouver Airport

Gordon Johnson is an accomplished industry veteran with 30 years of experience in the Canadian hospitality industry.

Gordon currently holds the position as Regional Vice President, Operations for Delta Hotels and Resorts in BC, where he oversees multiple hotels across an expansive region, and is also the General Manager of the Delta Vancouver Airport where he recently oversaw a $20 million renovation.

Gordon began his relationship with the Delta brand 29 years ago in Richmond, BC on the Front Desk at this same Delta Vancouver Airport. This role carved the way for Gordon in assuming increasing responsibility throughout hotel operations in locations across Canada. He took on his first General Manager's assignment in Whistler at the Tantalus Lodge (managed by Delta), which later led to GM positions with Delta in Saint John, Halifax, Vancouver and Calgary.

Gordon is an active member in industry affairs and has served in leadership roles for various organizations including Tourism Vancouver, Tourism Calgary and is currently a director of the Hotel Association of Vancouver and Tourism Vancouver.
