About

The Council of Tourism Associations (COTA) of BC is an advocacy organization that represents the more than 18,000 tourism operations across the province. We work with all levels of government, the media and businesses to ensure that the interests of tourism operations are heard and recognized in a meaningful way.

The tourism industry in British Columbia represents the provinces third largest economic generator, responsible for $9.2 billion of GDP in 2004 and employs more than 117,500 people. Ensuring that the industry is represented in a directed and cohesive way will guarantee that tourism operators around the province will be given the tools necessary to develop and expand into the long run.

COTA's Vision is that of a vital BC tourism industry, which is sustainable, organized, cohesive, has a powerful voice and plays an essential role in the BC economy.
COTA's Mission is to advocate to and educate government, the business community, the media, the industry and the public on behalf of the tourism industry.

COTA remains at the forefront working with industry and government to foster sustained growth. It is particularly concerned about matters affecting transportation infrastructure and policies, a skilled workforce, land use, taxation and regulation, and funding for tourism marketing. The organization is committed to advising the provincial and federal governments on tourism policy development and ways to improve the business and investment climate to eliminate barriers to tourism growth.

There are many exciting opportunities that will be available in the coming years and COTA looks forward to working with the tourism industry to ensure that your needs are being met by policy makers and business leaders alike.
