The Pat Corbett Bursary is an award of $3,000 made to a student studying in British Columbia. Qualifying students will have completed (or currently be finishing) one or two full-time year(s) of instruction in a tourism/travel/hospitality program in a public university, college or institute or through a private institution accredited through the Private Post Secondary Education Commission.

The application form must be accompanied by the following:

• A transcript of your most recent student academic record.
• One or more letters of recommendation from a teacher and/or school administrator currently responsible for your education.
• One or more letters of recommendation from past or present employers. Employer and school letters must be on official stationary and must include telephone numbers and fax numbers. COTA reserves the right to check all references.
• ONE (1) page handwritten essay expressing your views on a current tourism issue.

Missing or incomplete documents will detract from your application.

Applicants are judged by a COTA appointed jury on their aptitude for the tourism industry, leadership qualities, extracurricular activities, financial need, academic record, and letters of recommendation.

Payment is made directly to the educational institution for credit toward the student's tuition fee. COTA must receive confirmation of full-time re-enrollment from the college/university before payment can be made.

The deadline for 2008 applications is extended to Friday, October 31, 2008.
