GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCES CTC MOVE TO VANCOUVER
The federal government's announcement today to move the offices of the Canadian Tourism Commission from Ottawa to Vancouver was welcomed by the BC Tourism Industry. The Canadian Tourism Commission is a crown corporation of the federal government that works in partnership with the country's tourism industries to promote Canada internationally as a great travel destination. BC's central location between Europe and Asia will offer the CTC balanced access to these markets. Moreover, with negotiations underway to secure Approved Destinations Status with China, Canada will be well positioned to take advantage of an increased interest in travel from the Pacific Asia region. EXPANSION AT THE ABBOTSFORD INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
The Abbotsford International Airport (YXX) is set to benefit from a $6.8 million expansion project, crating exciting new opportunities for growth in the Fraser Valley. The partnership between the province and the city of Abbotsford will see the Province is contributing $4.25 million and the city investing $2.25 million, towards expanding the runway by 1,600 feet to accommodate larger aircraft, expanding the runway apron, building a new terminal loading bridge to serve wide-body airplanes, and expanding the international arrivals building to allow for double the number of current passengers to be processed.
